Kenneth Umbach Obituary
Passed away on December 19, 2016 at 69 years. Loving husband of Rosa Umbach. Cherished father of Brian (Jamie), Amy (Rick), James (Dione), and Brian (Autumn). Grandfather of Katie, Camille, Justin, Julianne, Kyle, Devin, Bella and Brooklyn. Brother of David (Maude) Umbach and the late Peggy Clopine-Ikerman. Ken graduated from Redlands High School in 1965, and earned a Ph.D. in Government from Claremont Graduate School in 1974. He moved to Sacramento in 1974 and began a long career in policy analysis and research with the State of California. He retired from the state in 2003, but continued his lifelong love of research and writing through his business, Umbach Consulting & Publishing, where he helped many aspiring writers turn their ideas into books. He also wrote Ken's Corner, a well-regarded weekly column, published in the Senior Spectrum newspaper. He enjoyed writing his articles about life, family, and interactions with others. His quirky sense of humor shined through to everyone he met. Ken and Rosa were happily married for over 34 years. In his youth, Ken traveled with his family to Austria and central Europe. Over the years, Ken and Rosa traveled to the east coast to visit their son Brian and many of their friends. Ken enjoyed traveling with his wife and children, going to exotic places like Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. In October of 2015, he participated in a high school reunion cruise with many friends from Redlands. The times he spent with his lovely wife Rosa in Pacific Grove were his most cherished moments, returning multiple times yearly. Ken was an avid reader of diverse subjects, sharing love of mystery and science fiction novels with his wife Rosa. During the past few years, Ken became a wine enthusiast. He and Rosa enjoyed sampling domestic and international wines. Ken most enjoyed spending time with Rosa and was always up for an adventure with his children and grandchildren.
