Richard "Dick" McHenry was born on Aug. 27, 1947 in Mishawaka, IN to Richard and Velma McHenry. He grew up in Monroe, MI, moving with his parents to Redlands, CA when he was a senior in high school.
Dick graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1969 with a degree in Telecommunications. He married Kathi Panelo of Grand Island, CA in 1982 and remained happily married until his death.
Dick began his career as an on-air newscaster for TV Channel 3 in Eureka, CA after he graduated from USC. After five years in news he decided to make a career change and began selling heavy duty commercial trucks. He became a salesman for dealerships in Eureka and Stockton and advanced to Dealer-Development Executive for Peterbilt Motors in Newark, CA. He then became a General Manager for HT&T in Honolulu, HI. After three years he relocated to Southern California to continue his work in sales until his relocation to Northern California. In 1997 he opened his own truck dealership, American River Trucks and Equipment, in Woodland, where he continued until his death.
In his spare time Dick loved spending time with his family and outdoor sporting activities. He was active in snow ski patrol, sailing, hunting, and fishing. Generous with his time, he was also active in public service organizations.
Dick passed away unexpectedly on Dec 22, at the age of 67. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kathi McHenry of Fair Oaks, CA; his son Jonathan McHenry; mother-in-law Jennie Panelo of Fair Oaks, CA; sister-in-law Judy Lesh and husband Geoff of Gold River, CA; brother-in-law John Panelo and wife Lori of Lodi, CA and brother-in-law Joe Panelo and wife Tonda of Rancho Murieta, CA; and his beloved dog, Tyra.
There will be a celebration of Dick's life at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at the First Covenant Church of Sacramento, 10933 Progress Court, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670. A reception immediately follows.
