Sharon Doak Obituary
Sharon S. Doak (63) of Oklahoma City, died Monday, May 17, 2010. Sharon was Fred's devoted wife and partner for almost 42 years, and she blessed their home with two beautiful daughters. Sharon was born April 18, 1947, at Hemet Hospital, California, her parents, William T. and Pauline Murray, living at nearby San Jacinto at the time of her birth. She lived her early years in southern California, graduated from Redlands High School in 1965, and attended her first year of college at the University of Redlands. When her father was transferred to Tinker AFB in 1967, she entered Oklahoma City University. While in college, she began working as church organist at Epworth Methodist Church where she met Fred who was the church youth director. They were soon inseparable and married in 1968. Their daughters, Julie and husband Brian Jansen of Wichita, and Lisa and husband Jimmy Rowland of Mountain Home, Arkansas, have given her nine grandsons who were the loves of her life; Brandon, Matthew, David, Kevin, Andrew and Josiah, Hunter, Chase, and Alexander. Sharon loved church music, hymns and organ pieces, and Scott Joplin rags. She was a professional musician from about 5th grade when she played hymns for a church in Redlands and served three churches as organist and pianist in Oklahoma City before she retired in about 2003. She also loved children, and her career as a kindergarten teacher for Oklahoma City and Putnam City Public Schools and UCO Early Childhood Laboratory School were not a job but a calling. In addition to her husband, daughters and grandsons, Sharon is survived by her mother and by her sister, Dr. Cynthia Murray. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Skyline Urban Ministries, 701 NW 8, Oklahoma City, OK 73102. Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, 5-21-2010, at Grace United Methodist Church.
